Department of Economics is one of the core departments established along with the establishment of the University of Sialkot as a landmark in the history of Sialkot. The department's core mission is to provide excellent education to students from diverse backgrounds in the subject's fundamentals and applications. The graduates of this program are expected to identify the economic and social situations and problems and suggest a set of alternative solutions. It aims at imparting sound theoretical and applied knowledge of Economics. In addition, the offered programs intend to develop awareness among students and train them for national and global challenges.

The fundamental objective of the economics program is to teach students a method of reasoning and to demonstrate its application to economic issues throughout the world.
The department of Economics had a start in October 2014, when this university campus was introduced as a sub campus of University of Gujrat with the motive of setting up of quality education in the area.
